How can I make sure that when using detergent powder for laundry, the detergent doesn't stick to the clothes?
-
Sometimes I wash clothes with cold water on my washing machine but the powder gets stuck on the clothes after the wash. How can I prevent this? What am I doing wrong?

Answer:
This is simple. Put the detergent in the washer first. Then add some water and agitate. THEN add the clothes. If you read the fine print on the laundry detergent box, you'll see they recommend this exact procedure.CollapseBot: It is because of people like you, CollapseBot, who don't read the instructions, that we have been forced to change from economical dry powder to "new improved" liquid laundry detergent and when that wasn't fool-proof enough we got Tide Pods which cost three times what a scoop of dry detergent costs. I get all worked up about shipping water across the country for absolutely no good reason; it's very environmentally unsound.Oh, Collapse Bot, you still don't know how to use Laundry Detergent? You could ask your mom, you know. Or You Tube. You Tube is the new Ask-Your-Mom for kids who never learned how to look after themselves at home.

If you have a top loading washing machine and load the clothes first, then dump the detergent on top of them and start the machine, this can cause your problem. It's even more likely if you overload the washer so the clothes have less room to agitate and dissolve the detergent. If you have a top-loader, put the detergent in first, then let the washer fill part way with water and swish it around before adding clothes. If you have a front-loading washer, maybe you're overloading it. Or maybe it isn't using enough water, which is something you'd need to have serviced.

Water temperature is also an important factor - if you are washing on cold and your incoming tap water is 63F or less, no detergent will work properly and powders will certainly not dissolve. I normally use powders for warm and hot cycles and liquids for delicates that I wash on cold.
