Business in Malaysia: Can an international student studying in Malaysia start a startup or business in Malaysia under student visa?

  • We are currently a group of full time students studying full time in Malaysia under student visa. And looking forward to start a web design and development start up in Malaysia. Does someone know, is it allowed to start a startup by international student. If not, is it possible to be Chief administrative Office intern to run the company without violating the law.

  • Answer:

    It will depend on when you received your visa and what does it say. For example: if your visa says you are not allowed to work, you can't open a company. (Technically you can but you need to leave after visa expires) If says you can work upto certain hours call a company secretary. The workaround When I was a student i partnered with others to open the company as I was not eligible. Word of advice Unless you have local cofounders it will hard to run the business.
