Why are some North Indians allergic to Tamil Nadu and the Tamil language? Is it because Tamil Nadu is so developed without the help of Hindi? Is it out of jealousy or some true reason?

I'm really frustrated to see so many questions showing North Indian's hatred to Tamil Nadu and its language. Is it because the rest are jealous or is it truly about something wrong with Tamil Nadu?

Primarily casual racism and prejudice. When I was doing my undegrad (Orissa), I had a few Tamil faculties who were very dark skinned. Quite a few of the North Indian kids I knew called them kallue ("blackies") behind their back. From my general observation, even though most of the Indians are observed with fair skin, North Indians seemed to obsess more about it. Also, they had some feeling of rejection towards Tamils for not accepting Hindi. But later many of them warmed up to the Tamil folks, if not all.

North Folks are funny!! I have a female colleague next to me who is from UP and she always poke nose. So Can I generalize all UP people do nose poke and be dirty at work place?????? Basically die hard Hindi-lovers need some more years to understand reality and grow up, until then a good smile is suffice for them.

It all depends upon perspective of understanding things. Being a tamilian, I still have huge number of north Indian friends. Still i found something different in terms of character of north ppl. Most north ppl consider "only" tamil speaking ppl as a different entity(We don't like English). They even think that hindi is national lang of India. Their perspective of looking at tamil ppl are, tamil ppl wil eat only sambhar, dark skinned(typically racist-no doubt abt it), moody type etc., Fact is,most of them never had been wit a tamil guy/girl. It's all perception that they have. It is very true that they are jealous of tamil ppl becoz most of them shine well in jobs in north india which gives them huge competition. Now the reason behind " North Indians so allegric to Tamil Nadu" North ppl are allergic to TamilNadu becoz 1. they don't get their food ( They actually demand for their food - Think whether the same happens to tamil ppl in north india) 2. They can't adjust to tamil culture(I feel its the best culture) 3. They can't speak proper english (which tamil ppl never care abt - still north ppl can't accept it) I used to think the same in north ppl perspective. All i found is, no valid reason. "Give respect, take respect" We are more friendly than you think, unless you don't show off your attitude.

I'm from Tamil Nadu and let me clear one thing. We Tamils are not against any language. We are only against forceful imposition of any language. In my state we speak English more fluently than Hindi. Many north Indians do not know about south of Vindhiyas. But we Tamils know beyond the Himalayas. In my state my people are are etched with a heart of gold. My people are kind and helping. Once anyone comes to Chennai they will never have a heart to leave . Though my state is hot and humid it's a wonderful place to live in. My state is one of the strong states on literacy and we have not lost anything by neglecting Hindi.

I stay in Gujarat and few of my colleagues are Tamil. All of them are warm and go along well with everyone. On basis of experience with them, I observed that Tamilians are deeply rooted in their culture to the extent that sometimes they don't appreciate other cultures. And believe me the notion of not having introduced Hindi matters more to them.

I'm a Delhite who is currently studying in Manipal(Karnataka). I've been to Chennai a lot of times and every time I've been there the only thing I've wished for is for that trip to be my last trip to that place. Before saying anything about tamilians I would like to clarify that I'm not a huge fan of the racist remarks North Indians throw towards south Indians. I feel it's fine as long as it doesn't hurt anyone but we do tend to cross the line a little. That being said, what I've noticed personally is that tamilians in specific have a high amount of ignorance when it comes to North India. They consider it to be alien land. They think that North indians (according to them everything above Karnataka) is a different country which has people who are not called Indians. One small incident that happened with me last year when I was in chennai for a tournament. I stopped an auto and tried to communicate with him in the most basic mix of hindi and english so that it's easier for him to understand. The reply I got was - 'mujhe hindi nai aati'. It was said in grammatically correct hindi. Drawing a direct comparison to Manipal, I would say that the people over here don't like the North Indians either but they try not to show that out loud. They speak to us in whatever little hindi they know and accept us the way we are. This positive attitude encourages us to also pick up basic words of kannada because it now feels cool to know the language. This feeling is something I will never get for tamil for the simple reason that they don't respect my language. Tamil Nadu is a very beautiful state but the beauty is restricted only to the part where nature plays a role. When it comes to interpersonal relations, I feel Tamil Nadu fails due to it's narrow mindedness and sheer ignorance.

North indians respect south indians, especially Tamil people a lot because we are the only set of people carrying the pure hindu culture still, the issue here is between abusive north indians and abusive tamils,Many north indians i know from well cultured backgrounds come to TN to visit temples, rameshwaram as they see our state as a part of their own religious heritage as well.

I got my first job in Chennai and lived there for around three years. Every one who knew me at that time suggested me not to go there. And they were right to some extent.Initially I faced lot of problems.Even waiters in restaurants used to give me a wicked smile when I used to ask for SPOON.There are few things that are not good about Chennai and there are few good also.BAD ones first:-1. Climate:-though I hail from Haryana, which is also quite hot during summers.Yet summer time in Chennai was the toughest one for me. Hot and Humid. One cannot survive without AC.2. Food:-I could not eat South indian food daily and North indian is too costly and on that they put Curry leaves in all dishes.Finding a cook who can make a north indian food is quite tough.3. Distance:- It is too far from my home and I could not manage to fly every month so I felt home sick.I feel this is a very popular factor among north indians for not going to Chennai.4. Language:-I didn't know Tamil and they don't speak Hindi so there was always a battle to talk to normal public. Here I would like to say that both parties are at fault.Northie:-We feel every one knows Hindi,Partly because we have never seen a person who does not understand hindi so it a big shock to know that Tamilians dont know Hindi. And we start guessing the reason for that and reach to some nasty conclusions. So there exist some parts in India who do not speak or understand hindi and we need to accept this.Southie:-Thanks to the populist government that they choose, they don't get a chance to learn hindi during their school days.Later in life they are not willing to learn Hindi because they feel they are compelled to do that. I feel instead of making cultural excuses they need to understand that time is changing and Hindi just helps you to communicate with most people in India. It is the same reason why I learned Punjabi in college days. There is nothing bad in learning a new language.I have even tried my hand on German once.5. People:- They are not very fond of North Indians for what ever reason. Though there is a lot of difference how a NI and a SI child is brought up. I feel NI are more adventurous and more mischievous on the other hand SI are more cultural and respectful so elderly feel that NI may spoil their culture. Also people in SI start saving their salary, the day they get first time.On the other hand NI starts saving only after marriage. that's the reason one finds more NI in Escape Avenue.6. Drinks:- Half of the Chennai gets drunk in the evening and one can see people lying on roads or fighting with anybody around. I have seen punjabis drinking heavily but not like Tamilians. Accept that, only Tamilian can drink MORPHEUS Brandy in the Chennai summer.7. Dirty:- Monsoon in Chennai is the worst time.I used to feel as if whole bay of bengal has entered Anna salai and also infrastructure is also not that good.8.Entertainment:- City closes at 9 PM. most of the hard drinks are not available and one has to survive on local stuff. Its really hard to buy hindi movies tickets in theaters. Fair girls are hard to find(sorry but being a NI i prefer colour to culture).Marina beach is nothing like what one imagines when we talk about beaches.GOOD ones now:-1. Chennai teaches you how to survive in difficult situations. Now I rarely feel low and have gained a good reputation of a man of patience.thanks to innumerable arguments I had with Chennai Auto vala.2. Safety:- It seems very safe particularly for women.I never saw any incident of eve-teasing or harassment . Even most people are non violent and very peaceful not like Jat or gujjar of Haryana and UP. Though Auto vala are an exception here.3. Hard work:- Educated Tamilians are generally hardworking and have very simple and straight forward life. Chennai taught me to work and get success. I guess Delhi teaches us to make money through any means.4. English:- Chennai is a great place to learn English. Most people there know english and very less who understand hindi so It is a good place to improve your language skills. I personally improved a lot in this front. But be carefull not to imbibe that SI accent.5. Culture:-Every third person is a singer. Two of my collegue left job and became fulltime singers in Tamil industry. Clasical music is like a daily dose for children.

Because of "Hindi or North Indian beggers" are Invading us. I have a better solutions for Tamilnadu and other South Indian States (Andhra, Telengana, Kerala, Karnataka), to get ourselves rid off from North India. We will form a Seperate Country "South India", (like North Korea / South Korea, or like Slovakia or Czechoslovakia Republic or like Iraq / Iran). 1. We will create our own Constitution Government with a President, PM etc. 2. We speak our Regional Languages. Our Native official language should be English (Since White men have done many good for us a lot) and Sanskrit (has a much more precious and cultural things inside it, if we learn better). 3. Make more Employment for peoples, create more Businesses (for South peoples only). We will expel all north peoples from "South India" to their Native states (upon their wish). Create more competitive Education in the world. 4. We can make Democratic, Corruption-less nation, Non - Castism (Already South India has transformed better in this) ............ (At-least like Singapore or Malaysia or Gulf states which transformed as a democratic countries and where many South Indian peoples are there). 5. We Popularize South Indian cultures (in terms of Food, Social Culture, living standards etc.) and Native Products (Textiles, Engineering, Ayurveda or Siddha) overseas. This above things are not a Fantasy Guys. If we unite together, we can make all the above things !! Remember in this modern world there are lot of Dutch, Germans, French and Some Chinese and Some Scandinavian Peoples like the South Indian Cultures very much and learning our Food and Language traditions on their own will (Its like a Hidden Champion now. One day it will arise to the Top if we unite together) !! Let us Unite Together Guys !!
