Is there an english version of baidu.com?

How can I download the "English version" of "Google Play" Android app (or any other App "in English") from a smartphone that was bought in China?

  • I would like to download the ENGLISH version of Google Play and other Apps. My cellphone menu is in English, but my Android phone was bought in China so the browser keeps sending me to any App I wish to download in Chinese, not in English. How can I prevent this from happening again?

If it's just about Google Play, I find inserting a SIM card from another jurisdiction (prepaid, even with no credit, is just fine) works. Obviously you then have to use Wifi to access Google Play, but when you do, it'll offer you the English-language version or the version offered to that market, regardless of where you're actually sitting/standing in the world right at this moment. I've used this workaround to get international Skype (not the http://tom.com version) installed on my Chinese-language Android system. Once installed, I just change the card back, and the app carried on working - and updating itself (with new versions of international Skype). If you can't get hold of a SIM card from another country, ask around among friends who bought their phone abroad. Often some mobile provider will throw a "free" SIM card in in an attempt to hook customers for the future. Or see who's been on holiday recently and ask them if they got themselves a local SIM card. Dammit, I should have kept that prepaid Kenyan SIM card, I could send that to you by post!

Reinstall the operating system with a version that's not specifically designed for the China market. I hope there's an easier answer, but that's the only solution I've come across.

Have you checked android Settings - Language - and see if the language is set to English (U.S.) ?Usually apps on Google Play just have one APK (which contains all the different language varieties in it). So depending on the language on the device, the appropriate language strings (which are in the app’s APK) are used. The APK is the file which contains the app and which can be installed manually also.If you think the right version is not shown for your country - or a certain app is not available, you can get it from one of the APK download websites:https://apps.evozi.com/apk-downloader/
