Which IT career is the best?

If you are split between 8 career paths, and it is part of your Myers-Briggs to be constantly split as far as career goes (ENFP here), what is the best way to decide which career to choose?

  • I have no clue what I'm doing and it's stressful.  I want to choose between my 8 careers, and I'm confused how to choose. They are all radically different...

  • Answer:

Many of my previous answers deal with this type of conundrum (exercises and ideas for finding clarity) if you're interested in checking them out. However, to break out something new that relates to what you asked: The Myers-Briggs test is just a sociological theory and system of thought. Like many systems, it was created by some smart people to try and make some helpful generalizations to the masses. In reality, every person is different. You can't put billions of people into a few small boxes and assume that they will fit perfectly within it. Perhaps you don't belong in any box. One of the worst things you can do to yourself is to allow someone else to put you in a box, define you, and make you feel as if your entire life is destined to go as they predict. If their system is stressing you out and making you feel constrained and lost, obviously it's not helping you achieve your goals. So give that book away, take out a blank piece of paper, and start again. You make all of the rules for your own life. No one else can unless you allow them to. Who says you can't combine features of all 8 career paths and create a totally new industry from this process? The world has many problems right now. You have many ideas, talents, and passions. Figure out the best way to use what you love to do to help others. Even if you don't get paid anything to do it at first. Your career will emerge from this process. And hey, don't be stressed. You're in an exciting time in your life! The world is your oyster. -- I'm biased, but I sincerely believe this blog will change your life for the better. ⒷⓁⓄⒼ ☞ https://jordanphoenix.quora.com ☜
