Music Appreciation: What's one song that can get me into reggae?

Everything that I love about reggae is in this song. Simple, bad ass bassline Minimalism as an emotional effect and place setting For lack of a better word to describe that hypnotic thing that keeps you hooked to the song, I'll just call it GROOVE Truth-telling lyrics Soul

Crazy Girl by Half Pint (first heard this from my cousin's ipod only to find out it is a popular song from GTA 5) Serious Times by Gyptian (Heard this from an old burned CD that is in an old stash) Radio Retalliation by Thievery Corporation (I got this from a teacher who I had, he really likes jammin to reggae during art class, kinda has a jazzy feel to it) I hope you like them :)

The Harder they Come by Jimmy Cliff. Then listen to the whole soundtrack album...once your hooked ( and possibly buzzed) then start on Bob Marley. These were the "beginnings" of mixing that island sound with Guitar rock

If we're trying to introduce someone to an entire genre of music, it's tough to do without knowing that individual on a personal basis. Great DJs select songs based on the listener. That said, if I were to play a single song, hoping it would entice the listener to hear more from the reggae genre, I would play...Sister Nancy - Bam Bam It's hard not to enjoy a catchy song! Never cared for Reggae music. However, when I saw the movie http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0100720/I started liking it. It was purely an association thing, regardless, it made me start to appreciate the genre.Here is the video cut from the movie (starts at 6:55; Three Little Birds by Bob Marley). And remember, "Every little thing is gonna be alright!"

I'm a little out of line here offering a slice of rocksteady/ska instead of "reggae" perse, but this ingenious song by Prince Buster deserves a listen by anyone working on a appreciation for the history of the genre as a whole. Fantastic tune.
