What is "vertical media?

Should the media have the amount of freedom it currently has if what we watch & read affect our lives and even foreign relations in politics?

• I myself really can't decide in my head. My liberal side thinks the media should have full freedom and if we try to change it, people, especially politicians might use it in the wrong way. Another part of me thinks; media is the most powerful thing in the world, and it might get very dangerous to leave such a powerful thing completely free. It was reported by psychiatrists many times that the media giving too much coverage to serial killers, mass murderers cause/support the creation of new ones. The high number of violence we see on TV normalize violence, and every violent-act in movies, TV show is much more graphic than what it was like in the past. I wish the media and entertainment industry would act a little more responsible and sensitive, but so far it doesn't seem like they do. So should the media have the amount of freedom they currently have? Should there be laws about the topic, or a council that will teach the media leaders more about the connection between psychology and media? Any opinion, suggestion, thought is welcomed.

  I generally hate the press.  They are intrusive,judgmental and very reluctant to admit their own mistakes.  I used to drink in a Newsday bar ( Newsday was a big paper on Long Island) and they don't like each either. However I also worked for government and without a free press, government on every level would take your money, and your right to make personal decisions. They are a pain, and they are worth it.
