How much are pilots paid?

How much do Pilots get paid for one trip? Approximately.

  • I know, it depends on the aviation company he is working for and the distance and all that. But can someone tell me, just how much approximately?

  • Answer:

The subject is actually too broad to be able to give an approximate figure.  Pilot pay is based on a few factors, however, distance flown is not actually one of them.  Most pilot pay is stated as an annual salary figure which in actual practice is computed by hours spent flying (so in that respect distance is a factor as longer distance = more time).  Minimum pilot flight time is dictated by contractual agreements between airlines (80 hours a month being a typical amount) and pilots and maximum allowable time is dictated by government regulations (8 consecutive flight hours being about the maximum- which is why flights of longer duration than that must carry relief crews). Within these parameters the pay can vary widely.  Newly hired pilots for regional carriers can be earning as little as $16,000 a year while a senior captain of a major airline can earn in the neighborhood of $200,000 per year.  So you can see that to set an average based on the wide variety of parameters is very difficult.
