How many days do you need to backpack full of Europe? How much money should one one save for the entire trip?
-
Since i dint do myself any favor with the clarity of the question, I want to explain it nicely. First-off i am 26 right now, after my 34th birthday, once am settled financially. I would like to take break for about 3 months and do a backpack trip in Europe. My main purpose of the trip is to meet as many new people as possible and see how each country differers from the country side to a city side. Various Windows desktop wallpapers and numerous twitter pics have kindled enough of my curiosity in seeing some of these awesome places, which are too many to list. Honestly I am not even able to keep track of it. I grew up as a Manchester United Fan, so a trip to Manchester and watching match there is a must for me. Have always been fascinated by the castles that come up in GameOfThrones, so would want to include that to in my list. I don't know anyone in Europe and even if i know I really don't want to take their help, as it would really shunt my purpose of meeting as many new people as possible and exploring myself even more. Being an avid fan of Amazing Race show, I would love to activities like zip lining, kayaking, para gliding or even try something new. So how should i plan ahead for this ?

Answer:
What is the 'full of Europe?' It depends where you want to go! You can do a month or so hitting the large cities in the most expensive countries for as low as $1,000, but what are the specifics? Do you know anyone who lives there? What kinds of activities do you plan to do?

Reading the description in your question, let me answer the requirements one by one : Time to travel : Travelling in shoulder season (that pleasant gap between hight cost peak season and lousy weather off season) would do wonders. First of all , the cost in hotels/hostels/air fare would be cheaper and you can avoid crowds in the tourist spots. Thatâs the best time to see the city at its real face without any tourist glory. Also, you get the real glimpse of the daily life and get to socialize with locals, not tourists. My advice, avoid Summer and winter (December). Spring and autumn is best time to explore. Summer time is the most happening season and Winter is the festive season. You can choose as per your preference. Cost (in INR): Below is the rough estimate : One-time expense: Flight = 45000 (max.) Visa = 6000 Moving from one city to other city = 5000 (train, low cost flight depending on how many cities you would like to cover) Day to day expense: Accommodation = 2000 (approx. value in hostels or Airbnb) Food = 1000 (Breakfast + Lunch + dinner) Transit within city = 800 (metro pas for 2 days or more) Considering this, the overall expenditure that is incurred for a 10 day trip is somewhere around 85K-90K exclusive of entry tickets to famous tourist spots. Have this as the base structure and you can multiply the value from day to day expense with the number of stay. This is based on the fact that you are backpacking and exploring things on your own. Place to travel : Most of the European countries are part of Schengen states and you can visit multiple countries with one Schengen visa. However, there are countries for which Schengen visa is not applicable, example : UK, Ireland, Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia etc. You need separate Visas to visit each of the countries. I suggest you take Schengen Visa to visit Schengen states for your first trip. Again, the VISA requirements depends from which country you are and to which country you are travelling to. Travel Theme: Again, Europe is too vast (and too beautiful) that even 1 year is not enough to explore. So, pick the top places that you really want to see.Having a theme would help you to choose places quicker. Example, think if you want to do culinary tour or country side tour or famous capitals or cultural tour etc. If it is a mix of all, then think about the places that you want to see more. If you take Germany for example : you can visit Black forest for some amazing photography, fairy tale castle Neuschwanstein and beautiful countryside in Bavaria, one of the most modern capital Berlin with its world famous Brandenburg gate. Pick according to your interest. Every country is unique. Start planning right now. Half of the planning is done once you select which countries/places you want to see. Then plan 3 months ahead on the flights, accommodation, train tickets and Visa.
