Does "How to win friends and influence people" work in any society / culture?

  • I read the book and I agree it works in developed societies but in Latin America calling people by name is like you are finger pointing them, also we have sayings are "lo que se alaba se echa a perder" that means if you say good things about somebody that person will turn to bad. I don,t know about Africa but the Latin American slave culture comes from Africa, I also have few experience in South East Asia...

    Maybe an alternative could be used in place of using the persons name, might there be an acceptable equivalent in Latin American society/culture? "that means if you say good things about somebody that person will turn to bad" To myself that sounds like superstition.

Yes it can. The book is at its roots applied psychology. Now the concepts in the book, like anything, must be used with digression. However, psychology for humans remains primarily the same no matter what area you are.
