How do you create google chrome extensions?

Does Google Chrome have a quality assurance process in place for extensions?

  • Some extensions request permission to access data on all websites and view browsing history. I have not seen a definitive answer on the web assuring us that extensions are safe to install. Is there a review process that deems extensions as safe to use before it hits the Chrome Web Store? If there isn't, is there a list of 'safe to use' extensions that is endorsed by Google? How can users effectively determine that an extension is safe to use?

  • Answer:

All Chrome extensions must adhere to Google's https://developers.google.com/chrome/web-store/program_policies. If there are reports of abuses and an extension is found to violate any of the terms, the extension will be removed from the Web Store, with the possibility of developer account termination.

If Google is hosting them on their official store, that automatically means that they are endorsed by Google. If you are looking for safe-to-use ones, check their ratings and comments. Believe in Web of trust.
