I don't know if that is actually true. However, aside from Amazon, they are mostly known for their software, while Apple is most famous by its hardware. At least Google and Facebook are generally seen as companies "ruled" by software engineers (SWE). So, one probably expects these companies to be very SWE-friendly.

After reading Inside Apple, as well as career reviews for each of the companies you have listed, I have come to a conclusion. As most people know, secrecy at Apple is very high. A lot of the companies you listed are somewhat open source, which means that things are very open, and some code and software is freely available. It even means that sometimes the community can even contribute. Having a secretive environment puts a lot of stress on engineers and developers as they have to handle all of the work loads by themselves. They are also under constant pressure to not leak any information and are not allowed to talk about the work. Almost like a government agency. Because most of the companies listed, except for Apple, have some open source background, engineers feel like they can be more open and are under less stress. One reason I can think of is that Amazon, FB and Google are the companies of future. I wrote an article comparing their business models - https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/business-marketplace-vikas-agarwal?trk=mp-reader-cardHope that helps
