Why are the Indian politicians so corrupt? Does it indicate that average Indian is corrupt and will usually take advantage of his/her position if he/she gets the chance to do so?

Indian politicians are a part of our society and have come up though the ranks (mostly) to gain importance in the main stream politics. Thus if a common man (who is so heavily angry and frustrated with politicians) becomes a MP/MLA etc tomorrow , isn't there a huge probability that he will be end up being corrupt himself? Does that mean , in general, we Indians are corrupt and have lost all values that our ancient scriptures preaches?

Answer:
No. The chance for an Indian to be corrupt is no more than the chance for a person of any other nationality to be corrupt. Please do not generalize by saying that 'we Indians are corrupt and have lost our values'. More than anything I think that the main cause is that people are 'Okay' with getting/giving bribes and being corrupt.Hopefully that will change soon.
