If you want to make a career in the IT industry you should have the passion for it. Most companies are now moving towards newer technologies (analytics, mobile, etc.) and it does take time for them to shift their development patterns and acquire projects based on these new technologies. In the end what really matters is 'what you can do to help accelerate their growth and passion for IT development'.
