What is the job market like for programmers/web developers across the world?
-
I'm hoping to move to another country in the next few years (I'm from the US) and the job market here is fantastic for web developers, especially those versed in, well, all kinds of languages. From PHP, to Rails, to ASP, everyone has a place and an opportunity to make money. I was wondering what the market is like across the world, as far as expectations of pay, expectations of education from employers, difficulty of finding jobs, and perhaps what companies seem to drive the markets in different countries.

Answer:
In Australia depending on your experience and skill-set, a web developer can earn from 45 to 90k+ that's in Australian dollars. Average developer salary for a middleweight developer is probably around the 55 to 65k range. A senior developer probably gets on average 75 to 85k and depending on the company and niche, 90k+ The start up scene in Australia is slowly growing but due to lack of accessible venture capital like the US, it's not the biggest market for developers. I'd say design agencies are the biggest employers of developers here, Sydney and Melbourne are both great cities with developer vacancies over other Australian cities. These salary values are very loose, so keep that in mind. Rails and Django developers can earn you a pretty penny here and if you're a dot net developer you can earn a lot of money over a lot of the other languages as well. A lot of companies cry out for dot net developers here. Checkout http://seek.com.au to get an idea of what jobs are going where here in Australia and average salaries.

In Germany, specially in Berlin, Hamburg and Munich are many startups and bigger companies looking for web developers. I think what they search most are Java, PHP, Rails and JavaScript guys. I'm not sure what you earn in the USA but the payment isn't too bad over here. Update: Salaries are between 32,000 and 65,000 Euro. Depending on your working experience and the sector you are working in.
