India: Should the ISC/ICSE board be banned?

everyone has a choice after 10th standard and from my experience i can tell that all those students who are serious enough for JEE preparation change schools after their 10th standard majority of them shifting from ICSE to CBSE board. So i guess at that point you have a choice and its your fault if you didn't migrate at the right time. why should a particular board be banned for your miscalculated decision ? If such "no. of students selected in JEE" logic is applied then i think maybe most of the state boards will be banned.

Why should ICSE be banned? I feel that ICSE has much better syllabus than CBSE, also better books. But only problem I feel is rote learning. They are not taught to learn and understand. They are taught to secure marks by mugging.

Dude have you considered the number of schools that follow Cisce curriculum and cbse curriculum ! Icse board provides a better finished product although the +2 syllabus is not relevant to the engineering stream but that is no reason to question it's existence but it surely is a reason to ban you from quora!

I studied under CISCE board and english literature was not really a problem for us.But yeah for engineering entrance examinations,CBSE is better. ISC curriculum for physics  is too much based on formula derivations and theory definition questions and less on application based problems,like those found in entrance exams. Chemistry questions are mostly theory and basic chemical equatons which most students memorise. That is where an ISC student suffers.We are not taught to application based problems.We are not taught problems which require application of two different branches of physics.Our questions were mostly straight forward where you had to decide which formula to use, put the values in formula you memorised and solve the problem. And what is this bullshit about CISCE board.Here I am quoting the top rated answer "Want to be an IITian ? go to CBSE. Want to be yourself ? go to ICSE." Because studying under CBSE board makes you someone else!!

Please tell me you're not serious! I can't even begin to tell you what a foolish question you've asked! Here's why: Out of all the subjects one studies in school, English/Hindi Is the the most important. To be in ANY profession, communication skills are a must. Now, while English Language covers that, English Lit may be perceived as a waste of time. However, this subject is absolutely essential for the hollistic development of any person. To be in any profession, you need to be willing to read and comprehend, and no subject can teach you that better than English Lit. Moreover, after studying Shakespeare's plays, a person's entire outlook changes. They are able to understand everyday situations, emotions and social cultures much better. Don't ask me how. I discovered this from experience.

Well I did my 10th from ICSE and trust me sometimes I think I should have not changed my board. I totally agree that JEE and all other competitive examinations follow CBSE syllabus but if you want knowledge ICSE is the best. When we were in class 10 we were never sure form where will the questions come, we were supposed to have all the  knowledge about that particular topic,but in CBSE all the questions will be from NCERT and that too not from the inside but the questions and answers that is present at the end of each chapter. Any student of ICSE will rarely have any problem with English future in his life. I still remember when I was in class 12 we never even bought the English book, just heard the stories from our friends and went to give the English exam. When I was in class 10 we used to hate why do we need to study soo much in English but now I am happy. Now a days even if u have less knowledge about a particular topic its ok, but if your communication skill is good surely you will dominate that room. No doubt ICSE will help you master in your communication skills.

No not at all ..ISC boards shouldnt be banned Who says that Macbeth does not help engineers ? Dude after studying the vast curriculum of ISC board students dont find semester 1 engineering tough ..infact since i had already learnt computer programming with java from class 9 th ,.programming became a cakewalk all due to ISC syllabus .. It is a wrong notion that due to vast curriculum students dont clear the entrance exams ,the fact that students do perform well infact all my classmates of ISC batch 2010 cleared entrances with good score ,. Macbeth does enhance english Engineers do need a communication skill in corporate culture ..infact personally speaking ISC board does bring complete transformation in overall persona ..so banning ISC board wont bring a change its just an excuse for not studying ..

LOL. Are you retarded? ISC  is way more beneficial for students as compared to the other boards. The other comments make that clear, so I wont be typing it all over again. But I wanna ask you: You talk about banning a board that creates educated citizens? It's a pity everyone thinks a rank is the ultimate goal of education(that's what most boards focus on nowadays,UNLIKE ISC/ICSE).ISC gives a better insight into subjects, while simultaneously improving students'  communication skills.. India's education system is already pretty messed up. Do you want to end the scope for a better society to live in? By "Banning" ISC, that's all you can achieve. Please improve the nation with better education, not ruin it with an educational board that is meant to just manufacture engineers(like the State boards). In fact, the other  boards need to improve the edu. system. What's the use of such easy studies in std.10th? That's the time students get to find where their interests lie.. That's the time most people choose between aiming for JEE or a better life. Getting a better insight into study courses greatly helps aid us as to where our passion and skills lie. Please think before you post such extreme (and stupid ,IMO) questions. According to me, Knowledge  is the ultimate goal, not a score.

A unified education system would really help solve this situation: Here, you may argue that not all students have the same mental capability. To counter this, we can divide Courses based on difficulty level &/or content - such as English (Course - A, Course - B, Core & Communicative). Those interested in pursuing literature in their higher education can opt for the more advanced courses for the same.
