Is a Computer Science Degree considered a technical degree?

I am going to receive a specialized programming/technical artist B.S degree in the next 6 month but I am not well versed in the overall aspect of computer science. Should I go back to school for a B.S in CS or just work and come back for a M.S in CS?

  • My degree will be in visual and game programming which makes me a technical artist but I am not well versed in all the ins and outs of CS like algorithms for example which is embarrassing to admit. I would like to go back to school for an official B.S in CS but I don't know if its worth it. I eventually want a M.S in CS in my future. I also want to note I wish to attend University of California Berkley for my second BS or MS later in life. Any sound advice would really help.

University of California Berkley is a really good school, would be nice if you got to go there. For me, I believe that when it comes to Computer Science, most of the things you learn on your own are the things that more or less stick with you all your life. But I won't completely rule out the classroom experience as it has its own way of contributing to your general knowledge on a particular subject matter. It's great to practice but also wonderful to learn computer concepts from first principles, and most times that's the method taught in schools and classrooms whereas most times, when we learn things ourselves, we tend to find the easiest way out of our problems which usually bypasses a number of principles. So my advice is: Practice is good but if you have an opportunity to get the classroom experience, still go for it.
