What do you think about the approach of the AppSumo "How To Make Your First Dollar" program? (link on the question details)

Answer:
This is actually a damn good program. There's a lot of thought behind it and it's pretty immediately obvious that it's based on many years of observation and experience in what works and what doesn't. The principles in this course DO work, and are taught in a way that is not only engaging but actually forces you to go out and do the work, analyze the results, and either tweak your approach or keep going. It also minimizes the loss of time, $, etc. because of a well-thought-out approach and because of a bit of redirection when you get stuck. That's the difference between a course like this versus just reading a business book. I've read plenty, and failed extravagantly, and didn't really understand why. A lot of the concepts I'd gloss over, thinking I got them, I really didn't digest. One of the commenters said it's a good idea to speak to actual customers who've been successful, and the people in the program are all at different phases of their business, but I can say that I more than doubled my investment by using the principles taught in the course, and I expect that this # will keep rising. There's other success stories in the course as well. I also saved thousands of dollars by not buying other online courses which I would've previously been tempted by, because I feel like I really understand the concepts now and don't need them.

Look up Steve Blank on Udacity and do what he says. Pukka. But the road to epiphany is littered with stupid mistakes. Most entrepreneurs only really start to get serious when they've blown their cash and are staring at the wall. So go ahead, learn quickly, move on.

I am a skeptic about people who write how to get rich quick books or can teach you for 10's of thousands of dollars how to build a successful business.. I am even more leary of 31 year olds who have worked for other people and who have not built and developed businesses and run them for years telling them he can teach them how to build and run a successful business. A lot more too it than getting Facbook fans. There are a lot of great business books out there to help you, courses, and you can find plenty of "true" business entrepreneurs and business consultants who can help mentor you and teach you "how to fish". The key is having a business idea that makes sense, having a market, having a product that solves a problem, hiring or acquiring the right skills, having the right funding, and be willing to take risk. I am in Canada - but actually the provincial government have groups run through Economic Development that help start-up and small businesses and you won't drain your bank account wondering. They will be pretty blunt about what you need for the type of business you want to build. If you go to your local bookstore or Google online - there are a 1000 courses/books like these written by those who have never really done it themselves and built successful businesses. He was Facebook employee 30....big whoop. If Mark Zuckerberg, Steve Jobs, or many other people that have started at the bottom and put in sweat and tears and took risks and developed a successful idea and built a company and many by the school of hard knocks wrote a book ....it might be a bit more credible but the fact of the matter - they wouldn't do it because there is no quick way to your first dollar or millions and sure isn't from digital tools and an online course - it is about taking risk, having perseverence, a lot of times being in the right place at right time, having the right idea with a market, and finding the right people to surround yourself with for the skills you don't have. An ecommerce engine and a bunch of digital tools are not going to make you successful.. He already tells you his hourly rate is $1000.00 an hour. I can tell you that if you want help starting a business - you can find people that can truly help you with the experience to mentor and advise you for a heck of a lot less than that. When I see things like this - I think snake oil salesman, but this is just my person opinion. Before I invested a dime if you are considering it - I would ask to speak to live customers who have been successful and been able to do all of the things he is touting. Just my two cents.
