How Many videos are there in Youtube?

How does Youtube select which videos to show on the top of the list when many videos have the same key words in search in their title?

  • I've added some tutorial videos on Youtube and I would like most people to find them among the first result when they search for a specific key word. Is there any optimisation for Youtube search I can do?

    It is not just about Keywords or tags which you are using for the video. There are other factors too which google use to list the videos on search result page. It checks the back links, number of likes. If a video goes viral lot of blogs start pointing to that video which the youtube algorithm picks up and hence increases the chances of video ending up at top of the list. To sum up, these factors matter: 1) Number of backlinks from the high page rank sources like reputed blogs. 2) Video with high number of likes might get preference(i am not sure about this). 3) How frequently your video is being shared and spreading. 4) appropriate keywords/tags used in the title and tags portion of video. Though i have noticed a few videos on the top and not using any tags. #1 matters the most from what i have experienced till now. Example:  Video 'Top 5 marriage proposal fails' has got - A lot of backlinks, people have embedded this video on their blogs and many others are pointing back to this video. - High percentage of likes to dislikes. - It is shared more often You can try it yourself, start noticing why a video is on top by checking out what you searched for and check video 'stats' too. In sometime, you will start getting the idea what the game is all about.
