Are Google Ad words effective?

Google AdWords: Why does Landing Page Quality not get factored in the Quality Score computation prior to ad words auction?

  • From the Book Google Ad Words By Anastasia Holdren: It says that Landing Page Quality is used in calculating a Quality Score that is used to filter ads, but a second computation is done of the quality score without landing page quality prior to the auction.

  • Answer:

Who says it doesn't? Like all of Google's algos, we're not actually sure what factors into their design. While CTR seems to be a commonly believed factor, the rest is still a bit of a mystery.

See my other answer on Quality Score. The elements that are displayed are not the elements of the real-time auction precisely. QS in your account is an estimate. CTR, Ad Relevance, and Landing Page are the main 3 that go into displayed score, but the "real time" auction contains more elements. IMO it's an error to say that Landing Page doesn't get factored into the auction though. It  does.  Throw that book out. 2011 is forever ago so I'm sure there are numerous inaccuracies.  Don't rely too much on anything more than 3 months old.  Did the book mention how Extensions are a factor IN ADDITION to QS and bid in the auctions?  Probably not.  Super important.
