What would be more desirable in hiring for a management position?

What should I do in my career to get hired in upper management position or a CEO position?

  • As a mid-level developer, how should I shape my career to get upper management level position. Does it require an MBA? Serve in a company for 20+ years? Does Hiring Agencies help with it? Is it specific some skills? or depends on your networking or both. I am totally clueless about approaching this goal.

  • Answer:

One way to get into management is to start your own company. For example, I am the president of my own company. Keep  in mind, our company has one employee (me), and we have earned $0 this  year. Even though this is perfectly okay for me (considering I am doing  this primarily for self-educational purposes amidst college, and side  jobs), it may not be what you envision for yourself. So perhaps  ask yourself, is your desire to be a CEO more important than other  factors, such as: earnings, type of work, difficulty of work, autonomy,  geographic preferences, benefits, creativity...etc? You have a  lot of experience! ( Be proud! )  That means you probably know a lot  about your trade! If your company doesn't give you the room to challenge  yourself in new leadership positions, then reposition yourself into an  environment which is more willing to AT LEAST guide you into the  appropriate type of training you may require. My Computer  Science Professor had good advice. He said to seek out small & new  companies, because there you have a better chance to grow with it, as a  leader. Best of luck!
