Does Cloud computing scares you?

Are on-premise authentication systems compatible with cloud computing systems? if not how can compatibility between on-premise authentication systems and cloud computing systems be provided?

  • For any user to access the company data/applications he/she must be authenticated by an Identity management (IDM) system. Commonly used ways are Microsoft Windows authentication, SSO, LDAP, SAML, OPENID and OAUTH, OpenSocial, Facebook Connect, etc. Some of these methods are not compatible with cloud computing systems. If the enterprise IDM is not compatible with cloud computing systems adoption of cloud computing can be delayed further.

  • Answer:

I'm not entirely sure what the question is here, but Ill take a stab at it.   Usually when you are going to be working in a cloud environment, all of the software/supporting systems (including authentication) are written around that.   However, older systems might not have the integration capabilities to make such a change.   This is my thought: Write your own cloud. We are working on a mobile cloud solution right now, and it's been a lot of fun developing! If internal development isn't an option, use a widely known/supported solution. You will usually find official and unofficial integration packages, workarounds, etc for both newer and older authentication systems.   Hope it helps, or at least addresses your question!   - Zac
