Where can I buy surgical tubing?

Where to buy large-diameter latex surgical tubing near Atlanta?

  • Due to demands of a random engineering project, I find myself needing to buy large-ish inside diameter (7/8" or greater) latex surgical tubing, hopefully tomorrow. I'm in Atlanta, and don't know the area well, having just moved here a few weeks ago. Home Depot, Lowes, and Wal-mart all seem to sell something like http://www.lowes.com/pd_35791-104-RLGE_0__ which is unfortunately nowhere near wide enough for my needs. Does anyone have any leads or suggestions for a brick-and-mortar store where I might be able to find something?

  • Answer:

I had luck finding latex tubing at a home health supply place. I used it for a pumpkin sling shot. This was the type of place where you could rent a hospital bed or wheel chair. You might also try McMaster-Carr (http://www.mcmaster.com). They sell weird stuff like that, and they have a distribution center in Atlanta. They also have really cheap overnight shipping.

I didn't realize McMaster lets you do pickup at their distribution centers - that's life-changing. Placing the order with McMaster and driving out there this morning. Thanks, MetaFilter!

Apologies for self-answering, but a little bit of googling brought me to http://www.atlantarubber.com/store/index.php?cat=2904. Unfortunately, they're well outside of the city, and their website implies a 50' minimum per order, which is waaay more tubing than I want to buy...

Try these hose and tubing guys in Tucker, Georgia: http://rubberandaccessories.com/hose-tubing.html 1" ID, 12 ft max length. via some random http://atlanta.cylex-usa.com/company/international-rubber-co-20296258.html. I'd try other http://www.yellowpages.com/atlanta/hose-and-tubing?q=hose+and+tubing in the yellow pages, and I suspect that you may want to use the phone if their inventories aren't all online. Or mcmaster-carr.

Maybe an equine vet in your area would have a bit they'd be willing to sell you...if you're really at a loss, it can't hurt to ask!

Does it have to be surgical? The Ace Hardware and Do It Best Hardware franchises down here (all are independently owned and operated) cater to the RV crowd and have potable water rated hoses (or whatever those types of water hoses for drinking water) available by the foot off a roll.
