Looking for pc action-adventure game from the 90's

-PC action-adventure game, mostly action, but I do remember simple adventure things like moving blocks or unlocking doors-first person view-can't remember how health stats and weaponry were viewed-Had to rescue a woman (go figure), but not sure if she was royalty or anything, just motivation to do the journey-Started in kobold (or kobolt) caverns, there was a spider cavern section where it was tunnels burrowed by the spiders themselves, a lava cavern/mining level where you had to break down a rock borer (might have been a laser)-mid to late 90's probably because it's graphics were close to Quake 2, just not as smooth -PC action-adventure game, mostly action, but I do remember simple adventure things like moving blocks or unlocking doors -first person view -can't remember how health stats and weaponry were viewed -Had to rescue a woman (go figure), but not sure if she was royalty or anything, just motivation to do the journey -Started in kobold (or kobolt) caverns, there was a spider cavern section where it was tunnels burrowed by the spiders themselves, a lava cavern/mining level where you had to break down a rock borer (might have been a laser) -mid to late 90's probably because it's graphics were close to Quake 2, just not as smooth ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Now for extended details! XD I think the woman had been kidnapped by a sorcerer for some sort of ritual because I remember there was cutscenes where he was transporting her along, like using a portal to take her to the next level and such. There was one especially important scene where you are moving through a hidden corridor, encounter a small opening in the wall and as you peak in, he teleports the woman to somewhere on an altar. So some magic was involved. The spider channels level was required to go through to the next level, possibly because of a locked door? But the biggest thing I remember is the mining/lava cavern level, mostly because I never got past it XD So you come in through a mining shaft, if I remember right, and you move from there into a massive room that has lava flow going through and a big building in the center of it all. If I remember right, the building was the power source to work a drill that was cutting through the stone wall (it might have even been a laser) and you had to stop it by cutting off or shutting off it's cooling pipes that went into other rooms. The on thing that I always remembered very keenly was if you followed the lava flow to it's source, at the very back of the lava river flow was a gauntlet that made you invincible for some time, just sitting there on a little slab of rock. You guys have been amazing on helping me find old games and this one has been a doozy for me. I've been googling for ages and without any real key points to work with, I keep getting DnD campaigns instead of actual pc games. Thanks for your assistance!

Answer:
It wasn't a first person game, but this really sounds like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Die_by_the_sword to me. It's been ages since I played it, but I looked at a FAQ quickly and there does appear to be a Kobold Caverns section, as well as a bit where you blow up a laser and get a magic gauntlet in a lava-filled mine.

Kings Quest 8: Mask of Eternity?

Nah, not KQ8, already looked into that one, but your mentioning that game did bring something to light. The game I am trying to remember was pretty uninspiring as far as color goes XD I think it was trying to go for the whole gritty realism and ended up just boring and muddy looking XD I never got past the lava chamber level, so maybe it got more colorful later on?

Maybe Hero's Quest One. Renamed later to Quest For Glory. One of the best games ever made.

Like an Ultima Underworld type of game?

@Octoparrot: Won't deny Quest For Glory is awesome, but it's not this game. This game is later in the 90's since it is 1st person style in a similar fashion to Quake 2, just not quite as nice as Quake 2, yet not as low on graphics as Quake 1. @Steinsaltz: Not Ultima Underworldl, but thanks for renewing my interest in Ultima series! Those were some awesome games too! If nothing else, if I can't find this game, you guys are giving me great ideas for replacements XD

Could it have been Hexen or Heretic?

Die By The Sword! That's it! I looked at the images and it hit me right away! I'm not sure why I thought it was 1st person, maybe it had the camera option for that? Holy crap, thank you so much Fearthehat!
