How To Buy Minecraft With Itunes?

Where to buy a good cheap computer for minecraft?

  • I want to buy a computer, for homework and minecraft, for less than £300 in the UK. Where can I find one? I want to get my twins (both twelve) a reasonably priced computer to share. This will be used for homework (wordprocessing and internet), for email, and for minecraft (apparently this needs to be 40fps - but I am not sure if this is actually important, or what it means), for sims, and for other computer games. I use a computer for work, and purchase work computers but don't really game. Googling "cheap computers for minecraft" leads me into a thicket of 'build your own' / 'you need a XYZ graphics card' forum posts I don't really understand enough to make sense of. I am in the UK. I would like to spend less than £300. I don't have the skills or time to build my own computer so want a already assembled one. Small form factor would be nice but isn't essential. I think it probably needs to be windows (for game reasons). It needs to run minecraft / other games at a good speed. It needs to last for at least 3 years. I already have a monitor (17 inch LCD), keyboard, and mouse. What computer should I buy? (or am I looking for a unicorn and need to change some of my parameters)

  • Answer:

My son wanted to play minecraft as well and I just assumed I could plonk him on an oldish laptop we had already but it became apparent the video graphics requirements preclude a lot of older/cheaper machines. This page http://www.game-requirements.com/?g=minecraft mentions graphics processing units which, apparently, will work . There's also an outline here of system requirements http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minecraft#Development . In summary I think the very cheapest/oldest machines won't do the job and I mention this because having seen the graphics, which look like they escaped from a 1980's console, I'd jumped to the assumption that it would run on anything. FWIW he now uses the Android version on an Android tablet which has various limitation compared to the "real" minecraft but which doesn't stop him wanting to play it a good deal.

Most stores which sell the parts to build your own computer will also assemble them for you (for a small fee). This will almost always get a machine that is better off for you than if you buy a pre-chosen one from a store. Someone from the UK would be better able to indicate a store like this to you.

Where-abouts are you based? Often, a good source for relatively inexpensive (often reconditioned) machines can be computer fairs. I've successfully sourced computers from the http://www.computermarkets.co.uk/ event in Manchester in the past. My main PC at home was £300 from one of the traders there about three years ago, and still works fine (and plays Minecraft without issue). They're usually ex-office computers that have been lightly used in workplaces. It's not the event it used to be, but you can still get some decent deals on a PC that fits what you need. If it's not your area, there's probably something similar where you live.

You'll have a hard time running Sims 3 well on a <£300 machine if you have expansions. The base game might run OK but once you add in the expansions and custom content, performance really starts to go down hill. We have them all and even my BFs brand new £1k+ gaming machine doesn't run the game well with all the expansions installed.

Last time I looked at PC world they had some decent spec machines at suspiciously low prices, couldn't guarantee the quality or longevity of the parts at those prices though.

http://www.morgancomputers.co.uk/c/407/Desktops-PCs-Monitors/ used to be good: I have no experience in the last few years.
