Foot and elbow operated faucets prevent the spread of microorganisms from the healthcare workers hands, onto taps and back on to the next person's hands who would use the tap. During surgery these handless taps are a crucial part in breaking the chain of infectous organisms transmission. The hands harbour large ammounts of infectous organisms and as the hands will come into contact with the patient most frequently preventing transmission is key.
