How can i get a job?

  • I'm 16 and live in the UK, i'm looking to get a job. I not looking for a career or something highly paid, i just want to earn a little bit of money for myself. I lack confidence so i'm scared of going into businesses and asking for job vacancies incase i get turned away. Is there any way i can apply for a job online, like send a CV electronically and arrange an interview date. I don't mind if it's even in a supermarket or MacDonald or just cleaning toilets, i just want to be a little more independent. I can't work on schooldays, but i can on school holidays and weekends. Have you got any advice on how i can find a part-time job, it would be much appreciated :D

    You can start by getting up off the computer and go outside into the industrial parts of town and go door to door asking for applications or if they're hiring. That's how I got my current job. Usually those factory jobs are the best paid and have better chances of climbing up the ladder.

You will impress potential employers if you present yourself in person .. looking ready and willing to work. Visit local businesses and fill out applications. I'm sure competition is tough ... so you have to show them you're willing to hustle. You could also contact neighbors and see if they need help around their homes that they could pay you for ... Everyone is a little nervous applying for jobs ... but if you want to work, you have to be brave and "sell" yourself. Good Luck.

Well, you are making the most basic of mistakes. That is not appearing in person to ask the hiring person for a job. If he says no, then ask him if he knows of another place to ask. The most important thing is to be seen. What you have to do is understand the importance of networking, i.e. knowing as many people as possible and using those relationships to better yourself. The self-conscionious comes with your youth, but it is most important that you over come it and develop sufficient confidence to associate with people. Eventually, learn to listen to them and remember what they say, but more importantly why they say it. If you get good at that, you are probably manager material. But, for right now, you need to clean up, dress up a bit, prepare a short resume of who you are, and start going from store to store, company to company. Leave the resume with them. Now, take any job you can get and expect it to be the lowest of any job. Just remember to keep looking for a better job and move up when you get a bette job.

Like the other answer, apply for things online of course and go to anyplace you would like to work and ask to speak to the manager( with cv etc). Just remember, if you are asking for advice on how to get a job, you are already better than the lazy aholes who cannot be arsed to do anything. Go into that factory, restaurant whatever it is and realise..... this manager is no different from me, he/she had to apply for jobs, he/she needs money, he/she takes a dump everyday. He/she is no different from you other than they have a job, they are not Gods/Godesses. People are just people whatever their status, so just be straight with them. If you have a disappointment, don't panic or quiver, make a rejection a learning curve so your balls grow bigger for the next meetings. Good luck!
