What is a troll?

I always see this expression " Troll" here. Can anyone tell me what it is or what a Troll do? Please read describtion.

  • I mean we in Germany have the word "Troll", but I think it means something totally different in english. For me it seems, it is not positive being a Troll. So please tell me whats the matter with that. I apologise for not knowing

    Troll is the internet term for someone who posts messages with the deliberate intent of annoying other people and getting them to post contradictions. The most blatant form of trolling would be to go to a fan website and post that the fan, program or whatever that the site is about is not very good. So being a troll is definitely not good at all.
