Getting hired through a temp agency?

I have been hired as a temp (direct hire, NOT through an agency) for over 2 years. Should I be getting any benefits?

  • Answer:

I recommend you consult with a labor lawyer and see if your employer might be violating state or federal law by keeping you as a "permatemp" for so long. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Permatemp Good luck.

Welcome to the world! Did you have an employment contract when you were hired? If you did review that document. Unfortunately many employers have moved to temp workers to avoid having to offer benefits. If you feel comfortable approaching your boss about this be careful how you phrase your inquiry. Asking to be hired on because you want benefits would be a poor way to approach this I think. Instead you might ask if your performance merits being taken off temp status and being hired directly. Do a little research before you approach the boss as well. Are other workers who have more time with the company still temps? Do they deserve to be? How is the company's general health? There are a number of questions you should consider before approaching the boss. You should also consider the questions you might be asked in return. Good luck.

Depends on the company policy some companies state it when they hire you others just ignore it until somebody complains. I have seen many companies keep temps on for four or five yrs and then let them go and hire more! It's not right but if they break no laws doing so who's going to stop them?
