What is a career in car sales like?

The truth about Car Sales as a career?

  • I have been offered a job in Sales at a major car dealership in TX. I would like advice from those of you who have been in car sales recently or that are currently in car sales. I am a mature woman and understand that the hours are long and the dealership expects the sales reps to stand outside all day to greet customers as they come to our lot. Standing out in the sun or cold all day is a concern and also I wonder how difficult it is to make a good living selling cars today for anyone who has ever sold cars before? They do have a training program in place.

  • Answer:

I've never been in that line of work, but I do know a few that have. It's really all in the dealership you go to work for, some will put a lot of pressure on you to sell and use shady practices. Some will treat you as family and expect you to be honest with your costumers. It's a hard line of work to be sure, especially if you live in a economically depressed area with the stagnant economy we've had for the last few years. I live in oil country so the guys I know are doing quite well right now, but when the moratorium hit one of them lost his house. Of course that isn't really saying much because I know a few people in multiple lines of work that lost houses and cars and boats when Obama's little Nazi put the moratorium in place.
