How do i get sound from my laptop to my tv, via HDMI?

I connected my laptop to my tv via hdmi cable,no sound, is there any setting that i need to change on my laptop to get the sound on my tv?

    if you go into sounds and click HDMI sound or whatever then below click set as default then click ok and close any sound making programs and reopen and now you will have sound though your tv and when you disconnect it goes back to your laptop speakers
