Would foster care be an option?

What if the money paid out for Foster Care were diverted to helping folks pay for the costs of adoption? Isn't adoption the best option?

  • Answer:

Stuff happens in families that have children that make caring for their children impossible which makes foster care desirable.

Once again, adoption isn't for everyone. I understand your stance based on the last question you asked, and that stance is that adoption is indeed a better option. However, money isn't always the answer nor the issue. Again, as I stated adoption means adopting a child or children with a past history. This I think (besides financial responsibility) is the overbearing factor. Money aside, adoption means you are now responsible for someone who has a history and that means you are accepting that child and where they came from. The child might have come from a broken home where they witnessed abuse on a daily basis. That means psychologically the child will be changed, and you the parent must learn to deal with that. It is a noble thing to adopt, but it is much more than just a money problem.

I feel that adoption is one of the single greatest actions performed by humans. I believe it's better overall, but I can see how sometimes Foster Care is a better choice.
