Mitt told us he speaks inelegantly sometimes. "Women in binders" is inelegant but doesn't offend me. Why is a big deal being made of it?

Answer:
Anything that the other side can do to make the opposition look bad. Many people, including me, like to jump on dumb-sh*t that Obama said too. I mean, we really don't think that Obama believes there are 57 states in the Union now, do we?

Since the politicians just follow the path laid out by their party all there is left to talk about is semantics. Though it is funny how hard he tried to show that he wanted to hire women to maintain the facade of equality. Making special effort to hire people because they belong to an alleged disadvantaged group isn't equality. Gender equality is someone admitting that gender plays no role in their decision making process, and when people come to work for them the employees may as well leave their genitals at home. Of course with absolute equality comes an insensitivity to the very real physiological differences between male and female.

Maybe I'm a little slow but it took me a minute to figure what they were talking about. This is another example of people going to far. We all know Mitt was talking about 3-ring binders (notebooks) not anything else. So people will exploit anything.

I believe it all boils down to him being a "Mormon" and many people in this country falsely believe that the "Mormons" are oppressive to women.

I thought it was a big deal because he never answered the question presented to him. The question was about pay equality, and Romney used his minutes to talk about seeking out women to hire, (sounds like affirmative action to me), and we know Republicans are against that. I wonder though if those women he hired were paid the same as the men he already had on board. I also find it strange that with all his years in politics and in the private sector, that he would not already know many qualified women. I think the only way he could not know of any qualified women is that he actively avoided them.

It's hilarious, that's why. They are cheap school or office supplies. Kids put things in binders. I use them as an artist who can't afford to buy too many expensive portfolios to keep my art drawings in. They are also used for scrapbooking. They are old fashioned. He should have just said that he had files with women's resumes or something giving women more credibility as a business person. As it was, websites began to form and thousands of women sent their pictures and kinds of professions they are in, some not very businesses like and raunchy. People took it as a joke and are laughing about it. You know how politics are. People find one little thing and blow it up. Poor Mitt, he is trying to sound like average people, but doesn't know about such things. Maybe he should hire an average, Middle Class woman to advise him.

I think that Romney is trying to say that he supports feminism...but he keeps putting his foot in his mouth.

It resonates with the message perceived to be coming from the Republican party that women are, at some level, property to be controlled, put in place, told when they should or should not bear children. Putting them into binders is exactly what such a controller would say - keep them in place until you need them, then open the binder an pull out the ones you want. Of course, Mitt didn't mean that. But all too many of the far-right Republicans appear to mean something very like that.
