What day do Canadians celebrate Thanksgiving?

Canadians: Should we change our Thanksgiving Day to the day Americans celebrate Thanksgiving?

  • Answer:

I just read this about the difference of Thanksgiving celebration between countries .. probably best to leave them different since they represent different things. "Another reason for Canadian Thanksgiving arriving earlier than its American counterpart is that Canada is geographically further north than the United States, causing the Canadian harvest season to arrive earlier than the American harvest season. And since Thanksgiving for Canadians is more about giving thanks for the harvest season than the arrival of pilgrims, it makes sense to celebrate the holiday in October." No way. Canadian Thanksgiving is a harvest holiday and the harvest happens in late September, early October. The timing is perfect. The weather and folliage are fantastic and it's not too close to Christmas. Leave it as it is.

No. Our spring planting and our autumn harvest occur at different times, so our Thanksgiving should also be on a different date. We also do not acknowledge the Pilgrims, so that part has no bearing for us.

Does Canada have its own Plymouth rock? Its own day of discovery of the land, and by whom? Then you should have your own holiday, why base yours off of ours.
