How can I make my home address private?

Did Mary Ambrose Robert Palmers ex-girlfriend make a copy of Palmers private address book and proceed to contact his friends as well as invite her friends to his home on an unathorized basis?

  • Answer:

According to several friends of the late Robert Palmer and two of his family members, that is true. Apparently, around October of 2002, Robert Palmer started receiving complaints from his friends, some of them well-known, that Mary Ambrose was placing calls to them, trying to set up social engagements. Robert Palmer would occasionally allow Mary Ambrose to attend some of his social events and parties and at some of those events he would introduce her to certain people. Although these people were polite to Mary Ambrose they were not by any stretch of the imagination her friends. Apparently Mary Ambrose believed that any friends of Robert Palmer's were her friends too, and proceeded to phone them and make contact with them via e-mail, to their consternation. Those who are wealthy and famous do not like their private information given out without their express permission, in addition to which Robert Palmer was not in the habit of allowing Mary Ambrose to make social plans for him. He preferred to do that himself. He was naturally alarmed when he started receiving calls from people who could be construed as important in his life that Mary Ambrose was contacting them in what they considered to be an inappropriate and unsolicited way, making it perfectly clear to him that they did not consider Mary Ambrose their friend or even acquaintance. He apologized for Mary Ambrose's actions and assured them that it would not happen again letting them know that he had not given their information to her and that he was not sure how she had obtained it. When Robert Palmer confronted Mary Ambrose about the calls and e-mails, she tried to tell him that he had given her the numbers and e-mail addresses. He knew that was not the case and told her to stop bothering his friends immediately. The mystery was solved when Robert Palmer had one of his P.A.'s access the memory of his homes copy machine in his business office. The memory feature revealed that his entire address book had been copied on it. He demanded that Mary Ambrose turn over the copies to him immedialty, and she did. Unfortunatley, she had made additional copies because after Robert Palmer had passed away, she once again proceeded to contact his friends to "stay in touch." She was once again told by them to not make any contact with them. It is also true that Mary Ambrose did run afoul of Robert Palmer when she decided that she was allowed to invite her personal friends to his homes, as if it were hers, without his permission. In general, Robert Palmer preferred that only his friends visit his homes, and that Mary Ambrose should socialize with her friends elsewhere. The majority of Robert Palmer's friends were not close to Ambrose and were polite to her but otherwise had no relationship with her. As Robert Palmer's friends tended to be a bit more upscale, Mary Ambrose's friends were what anyone would call more ordinary, that is, regular working class people. Some of her friends were waiters and waitresses she had met as well as clerks who worked at the stores that she frequented, in addition to a few lower-keyed couples who were friends of Robert Palmer. Mary Ambrose did receive a monthly paycheck from Robert Palmer as she acted as his estate manager from 2000 to 2003, and a lot of her salary was spent on clothing and other incidentials in stores she frequented often. She proceeded to make friends with many of the sales clerks who naturally were friendly with Mary Ambrose because of the commissions they were making at her expense. They also hoped to get a chance to meet Robert Palmer and his well-heeled friends. Robert Palmer came home one day to hear laughter coming from one of his entertainment rooms and was concerned because he had not invited any company to his home that day. He entered the room and discovered Mary Ambrose holding court with three sales girls who worked in clothing shops she frequented in Lugano, Switzerland. They apparently had a bottle of wine open and were enjoying a loud conversation. When Mary Ambrose saw Robert Palmer entering the room, she started to introduce him to the clerks, and he politely nodded to them, then he asked Mary Ambrose to step out of the room to speak to him for a moment. He then told her to tell her guests to depart straightaway, and to not invite her friends to his home in the future. Mary Ambrose always had a problem understanding what the parameters of her relationship with Robert Palmer were. In February of 2003, Robert Palmer permanently ended his personal relationship with Mary Ambrose.
