Private contractor vetted Edward Snowden also ran background check on navy yard shooter. More privatization for the win? Thoughts?

USIS, the Falls Church government contractor that handled the background check for National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden, said Thursday that it also vetted Navy Yard shooter Aaron Alexis for his secret-level clearance in 2007. The company, which is under criminal investigation over whether it misled the government about the thoroughness of its background checks, said earlier this week that it had not handled Alexis’s case. USIS spokesman Ray Howell said the company got new information Thursday. “Today we were informed that in 2007, USIS conducted a background check of Aaron Alexis” for the Office of Personnel Management, Howell said in a statement. “We are contractually prohibited from retaining case information gathered as part of the background checks we conduct for OPM and therefore are unable to comment further on the nature or scope of this or any other background check.” http://www.washingtonpost.com/business/economy/contractor-which-vetted-snowden-says-it-did-background-check-for-navy-yard-shooter/2013/09/19/7e778cae-2173-11e3-a358-1144dee636dd_story.html

Answer:
Forget background checks. Just check if the guy is on mind-altering antidepressant drugs like every frigging mass shooter. Why the hell do we bother with anything else?

While there is a certain delicious irony to this, the government parts of the National Security State/Military Industrial Complex are just as capable of rampant incompetence as their functionally identical private counterparts. I don't know if this is an object lesson in anything but the well-known truism that any large enough bureaucratic enough entity is capable of great facepalm-inducing screw-ups.

That nutcase was given a high level security clearance when he had a history of mental illness and a dishonorable discharge. No agency is that incompetent. Not in the public sector or private sector. The SWAT team that responded was ordered to stand down. What the hell?! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/24153252 At every turn the system created the situation. In my opinion, this was a black op as a pretext for gun control.

It shows that much of the obama government is not ready for prime time. It is driven by an agenda that does not have the best interest of the US as the primary focus. The agenda is to reform American society, and letting things fall through the cracks is the new normal for less quality. Socialism lowers the standard to mediocrity. obama does not see this to be a problem, primarily because the US should not have secrets for Snowden to reveal or a navy requiring a navy base with employees to shoot. You can tell that by how unaffected he was by the shooting at the navy base when there were bleeding bodies on the floor and obama was railing away with his campaign speech.
