How do I get rid of the lines on the top of my TV?

What causes the vertical lines on my TV when I use my media player and how can I get rid of them?

  • I have a NTV300SL from Netgear hooked up to an older TV through an A/V cable while streaming from the internet and there are these vertical lines throughout the width of the screen otherwise the picture is clear. I have another Netgear streamer hooked up to an HDTV using an HDMI cable without the showing lines.

Thanks for the answers. I was able to solved the problem by hooking the A/V cable to an RF modulator and running the signal through the coaxial input on the TV.

Interference noise, the tuner interprets this as a signal and the CRT reacts accordingly. You won't get this problem with an LCD or plasma.

Stop using your media player while watching TV.

This is caused by electrical interference and can come from almost any source connected to or close by your TV. Even a food mixer motor in another room can cause this. with newer equipment attached to an older TV it is easier for this to happen. There are electronic filters available that help but usually do not eliminate this interference completely
