Do you know why cork is used to seal wine bottles?

Question to Tharnpfeffa regarding a wine cork backsplash.

  • About a month ago you responded to my question regarding installing a wine cork backsplash. You forwarded a photo from http://odetomyabode.files.wordpress.com it was a great assistance. In that photo, the person installing the backsplash used switchplate covers with writing on them. I have been searching the internet for them and wondered if you know if any sites that may have these or similar switchplates. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Woah...you can't find it online because most likely she did it herself! Now this *freaks me out*, because I just stumbled upon a plate I'd done a few years ago in a box of storage stuff! It's way easy to do your own and much better because you can pick something that's meaningful to you and have fun with it. Just go out and buy a few plastic switch covers at the hardware store (60 cents or so) Here, I bought 2 sheets of pretty wrapping paper, one had gardens and cottages and the other had poems. I applied a cottage I liked and then I carefully ripped the lines I wanted out of the poems and glued on top of the image, then applied a few coats of glue over that and normally I would paint the screws to blend in. (not sure what happened here) Google 'decoupage light switch plate' for other pages on it :) Have fun !! ...Wow!! I still can't believe it... Neat electrical plate. I am replacing mind also to match the color of the walls better. One of my switches was too old...shorting out...blowing circuit breaker and the others were close to doing this. Special unique things are neat. I am glad this is public to all to see. Thanks for the great ideas. Happiness....
