2nd addition study guide/solutions book for 3rd edition textbook?

  • I recently got the 3rd edition textbook for organic chemistry by Janice Smith and I wanted to purchase the solutions booklet for the problems in the textbook. I found that the 2nd addition study guide/solutions is like 1/3 the price of the 3rd edition study guide. Would the 2nd edition of the study guide work with the 3rd edition textbook?

  • Answer:

"I recently got the 3rd edition textbook for organic chemistry by Janice Smith and I wanted to purchase the solutions booklet for the problems in the textbook. I found that the 2nd addition" So if you spell "edition" correctly in the first clause, why do you misspell it in the second clause? To your question, the reason the 2nd edition is 1/3 the price is that it's 1/5 the value--teachers are not using it anymore. No, the publisher would make absolutely sure that the 2nd edition would be of no use to you, forcing you to cough up the $$ to buy their 3rd edition. Textbook publishers are like that (I know from teaching in a community college.)
