Can an aeroplane get stricken by lightning? And Why?

Lightning Storm...how come they always say, GET OUT OF THE WATER..but the fish don't get fried by lightning hits??

  • We see a lot of 'off shore' lightning storms here in Florida. I've often wondered why the creatures of the sea don't get killed by these strikes.

  • Answer:

Because lightning is going to hit the highest point on the water, which could be you. Fish are safe, salt water conducts and spreads the electricity out to the sides-- Just one foot down the voltage and current gradients are going to be safe.

Excellent article, Flip...thank you so much for the info. I wonder if this applies to fresh water ponds, too.

Thank you, Ancient_Hacker. It was just one of those things that I've always wondered but never thought to research <:O)
