What happens to medical records?

what happens if the doctors secrutary refuses to give medical records that you gave social security to obtain

  • Answer:

Nothing. A secretary is not allowed to give you your records without the doctors permission. And you cannot have anyone elses records without them signing a paper in front of the doctor saying it is ok to give them to you - and the doctor has to approve that, as well.

Other answers

While the medical records are technically yours, most medical offices behave this way such that YOUR doctor sends the request to THAT office and HE gets the records from them.

daniel paul is incorrect -- the records are not yours ( in most states at least ) -- they belong to the doctor --- if you request that the doctor share the records with another it is usually done but most offices will want to send the records directly to the other office/ organization
