How do you get the domain & range?

x=|y|+3, is y the input since it is on the right side if not then i get two lines the cross when i graph. domain, range?

  • Answer:

Get y to the left of the equation and x to the right. That will give you both the slope and y intercept. Make sure you give y both possible values.

i did that, here are the pairs starting x at 0, (0,3)(0,-3),(1,2),(1,-2),(2,1),(2,-1 ),(3,0)(4,-1).... creating a two lines that cross each other at (3,0). the book that im working off of disregards the points before (3,0) and says that the domain is {x|x>3} and range is {all real numbers} it seems like their using the y values which is throwing me off. does something happen when rewriting an equation containing an absolute variable?
