What do I do if my nail has a crack?

The area surrounding my nail beds are very dry they peel and crack.what can I use to help prevent and make better?

  • For years I've tried lotions, moisturizers oils and Vaseline but nothing seems to work. They peel they crack and when they peel I have to peel it more because I don't like how it feels and then it bleeds. I also try to cut it instead of it peeling more but it doesn't not work. Anyone have any suggestions to help me. My fingers are just ugly and bloody and I want to have nice looking hands for once without having acrylic nails on. I hope someone can help. Thanks.!

  • Answer:

I really like Burts Bees lemon cuticle butter. It's really thick so it stays on. They sell it at Target.

first, quit, using acrylic nails until your hands are healed 2nd, use oil even olive will help 3rd, sleep with glove protectors (see Sally's) 4th STOP cutting and picking your nail beds. let them heal. It will take few days, but it is worth it. If you continue you are apt to get an infection and loose a nail or two..

It's not my nail its the area around the nails. And the only time I don't have the ugliness is when I have the acrylic nails on. And ill look into those oils and I guess I should say I think it is dryness that is making it this way, it starts of by peeling then it bothers me so ill peel it more making it bleed because I'm taking off too much skin then its a bigger area. It feels and looks dry sometimes but I'm now assuming it could be the cuticles but I peeled so much on my thumb an it hurts.

I clearly understood it was the cuticles, when I answered.

theres a product that podiatrists have for people with the same problem as you have with your hands people have on their feet, cracked and painful skin etc etc ask the podiatrist office its a special cream for severe cracking and etc

It may be yeast due to using acrylic nails. Tea tree oil on them with a Q tip may help..but no nails glued on may help the most. Best wishes.
