  • I have gained a shocking 24 lbs in about 30 days of being on said insulin. What is the solution to this (besides death)? Before this "right amount" of insulin my bloodsugar levels were 330-380. Now they're normal 79-140ish. (I already walk about 3 miles daily)

  • Answer:

Could it be that it makes you hungry? My grandmother & aunt took insulin every morning and I noticed they got very hungry. Maybe your doctor can help you. That's a lot of weight in a short time.

A lot of physical work. I am diabetic, too, and I also gained when I was first put on medication. It's off now, but I put in a lot of hard physical work most days in the barn with the animals, turning compost, working the vegetable garden and flower gardens, etc. Protein in the morning and keep those calories down. The hard part is that as we get older, we need less calories, so we tend to gain wait no matter what. Get strict with yourself, and get exercising, one way or the other. All the best....

wow. Have you mentioned this to your doctor yet?

Clogged blood vessels due to sugar turning into fat may hurt you also. Eating no sugar/dairy/soy/gluten may help Diabetes. Less starch/sugar may help you need less insulin maybe. Exercise may lower the need for insulin as you burn more sugar. I hope you will be ok. Best wishes.

My mum pointed out two things to me -- first of all, I forgot but a sprain kept me immobile for almost 3 weeks in Feb -- and also, some of this weight gain is probably retaining water from some of the meds. Still, I will see my doctor on the 23rd.

Could you retain that much water? I can understand the immobility. I lost both my legs in a matter of 3 yrears and I have gained a lot of weight whicih my physical therapist attributes to immobilty.

Regretably I don't have a lot of endurance and still have a great deal of pain from the gunshot last year. However, My mother pointed out two things to me -- first of all, I forgot but a sprain kept me immobile for almost 3 weeks in Feb -- and also, some of this weight gain is probably retaining water from some of the meds. Still, I will see my doctor on the 23rd.
