Your question: How the home securities become possible excluding security guard and pets? I need a security for my home and I do not want to use pets and security guard. Therefore I am looking for a new ways which may be helpful for me. Asked by AERYN My answer: Good question, Aeryn. Very good question. A lot will depend on where you live. Security in an apartment in town is a lot different than security out on the back forty. The first step is good locks. Locks will not stop a determined thief or intruder (virtually nothing will) but good locks are the first step and will deter the casual and perhaps some of the amateur crooks. Further determent can be accomplished by the use of devices like alarms and cameras. Dummy cameras may help, but I wouldn't put much faith in them. Real cameras need to be attached to something that records what they see, in a safe place. Alarm systems range from just making a noise or turning on lights up to calling the police. The higher the level of security you want or need, the more it will cost, but the range of choices is wide. You can consult a professional security company, or do research on your on, using the Internet. What you CANNOT do, legally, is set any type of trap. In fact, I've been told you cannot legally even put up signs BLUFFING that you have any type of trap set. I find that hard to believe, but, like dummy cameras, I don't put much faith in any kind of bluff anyway. I hope these suggestions may help point you toward a solution that will work for you. I wish you the best.

I worked for Edison Security for ~3 years and the answer is that the "Home Security" company gets the signal from one of the sensors and call the home. If there's no answer, the person calls the police, next. And there's the glitch in the plan. God forbid you live in Detroit (4 hours later and still no police response was typical.) But the police have other things to do and are widely varied in response because they know like we knew that almost all alarm activations are false (that motion sensor is something else, hoo boy.) Now, that said, I did follow up on one alarm that was an actual burglary with only the motion sensor, no door sensors activated: the burglar had dug thru the wall into the bar. So there's that in their favor. But usually it's pets, balloons, A HEATER?!, shadows thru the window, even the wind banging the door (the motion sensor sensed the motion of the door.) I think a dead bolt or two is better, as would be secure windows.
