When saving a PDF from Illustrator, the .AI file that I was working on actually becomes a PDF. How can I change this?
-
This has been an issue that I've had for as long as I can remember. I am working on a file in Illustrator, when I need to save it as a PDF to present to the the client, I simply use "File > Save As" and change the file type to "PDF". When I do this, it saves the PDF but it also changes the working file from .AI to .PDF so in a sense, it is overwriting my .AI file. How can this be changed?

Answer:
When saving as a .pdf, instead of File > Save as, do file > Save a Copy > pdf. This way the .ai stays an .ai.
