How can I get free scholarship of any good university of Canada?

How can I get scholarship for presenting my paper at a reputed International Conference?

  • I'm an Computer Science undergrad from a private Indian university. I have completed my course about a month ago, but will get my degree in August. I will join my company in July, so at present I'm not really 'employed'. The registration fee for the conference is Rs. 30k (Around 600 USD). Add to that the cost of round-trip between India and Canada (around 2000 USD), hotel charges, etc. Can someone tell me how I can get a scholarship or some aid to present my paper at this conference (it is related to computer science)? Names of some companies/institutions which may provide aid? (My undergrad university doesn't).

    The main cost is incurred through air travel ($1000-$2000), hotel ($100-300/day). Also don't forget meals ($30-70/day) and transportation to/from the airport (can be anywhere from free to a few hundred $$). Sounds like you'd need $3.5-4K total. If your university does not offer travel support to present your research, you should be looking for professional societies, perhaps, sponsors of the conference. If your conference is sponsored by the ACM or IEEE, contact your local chapter of ACM or IEEE. ACM has special interest groups (each conference is handled by one or two of them), IEEE has societies. Some ACM SIGs have application forms online for cases like yours. Both ACM and IEEE conferences typically have reduced registration fee for students, but you have to be a member of ACM or IEEE (it's not expensive to become a member, and pays off after one conference).

Most conferences have a separate student registration fee. If not, you might contact the secretariat of the conference and explain your situation.  Usually this reduces the registration fee by half or two-thirds.  But I don't know your field and may be this is common there. If your school doesn't provide a travel grant, other than trying novel means such as Kickstarter or having a bake sale, I don't have a suggestion. If you're in academics, sometimes you can defray the airfare by giving seminars at nearby universities and having them pick up a small portion of the airfare.  But given that it's summer and you're an undergraduate, this probably isn't an option. You should also remember that hotels are usually $200/day and that you'll need  ~$50/day to live on.  So you're really in need of $3.5k.  You really have to ask is the cost relative benefit really worth it?  International conferences are expensive.  It's a lot of money for western professors with grants.  At Stanford I think we provide roughly $500-$1000 in travel support through our department for graduate students.  That wouldn't come close to covering an international conference.  I usually don't send my graduate students to international conferences until after their 3rd year (and sometimes 4th) and they've written several papers.

Have you checked to see if you must go in person or just register? Some conferences will publish your paper on the proceedings as long as you pay the registration fee. That would at least save on travel expenses. Good luck!
