The other day, I received a SMS from LM-IRCTCi for two 3A berths, with all my PNR details and booking date but where they write B1 XX, B1 YY, only two blank comma have come. The actual coach and berth number are absent. I went to IRCTC website and opened my confirmed booking and clicked on Send SMS. It says SMS can be sent only 3 days prior. I sent SMS to 139 and that system also sent me details of my PNR saying CNF but no coach number and berth number. Why even in 21st century and 2013 they have so many problems remaining I still do not get.

well, there is an option to change the number while your booking the ticket online. its on the page where your enter passenger details. If you do so, the sms goes to that number.

when we already book the ticket through irctc with user ID and password, there must be facility to edit the phone number which passenger want to receive SMS on. recently my son entered a wrong phone number, and said later 'Papa, I didnt receive the SMS'

You can always travel with m-tickets sent by someone else to you via SMS. The important thing to note is that the passenger's name on the ticket and your name (as per your ID proof) should match. e.g. there might be the case that my brother booked the ticket for me and sent me the m-ticket through SMS. It is perfectly legal and valid for me to travel with that SMS provided I have valid ID proof as per the pessenger detail in the m-ticket.

Log in to IRCTC and update the new number. Once thatâs done select the ticket you want the message for. There would be an option called send SMS.Click that and you will get one more SMS on your new phone number.

Letâs say you booked your e-ticket for your brother with your account which has your mobile number. Now your brother needs to travel and he does not have the print out of the e-ticket. You can do the following thing:1. Just forward the SMS to your brother.2. Ask your brother to change the contact name with the name from which you have received the message(eg. mIRCTC)3. Show the SMS to TTE :)PS: I don't think there are many people (TTE) who would check the sender of the SMS. Also, many a times they just ask for valid ID proof which you must carry.

Yes. It's valid. TTE needs only PNR number but sometimes they indulge in spat with passenger and that should not happen. There is one more option of this problem. You have to open the id from which tickets were booked and click on get message and enter the phone number on which You want to send the message .
