How do you shut down Chrome OS?

Is it possible to install the Chrome OS Desktop Environment in Linux?

  • I really like the simplicity Chrome OS User Interface. But I need the power of native Linux apps as well as real terminal access. Has anyone ported the Chrome OS desktop environment to a distro like Ubuntu? To clarify, I'm not interested on running Linux on a Chromebook, I'm interested in running the Chrome OS UI layer on top of Linux.

  • Answer:

If you read the docs on the Chromium website, you can build the ChromiumOS shell (UI) to run in a window. I used to be on the ChromeOS team that developed the latest UI and many of my teammates developed it like that.

If you haven't poked around here yet, this is the http://www.chromium.org/chromium-os for all things chromium, which is the open source version of Chrome and the Chrome OS. I don't know if it has exactly what you're looking for, but that'd be the best place to start looking.

chrome os is just a rebranding of linux that doesn't give you shell access... it is pretty similar in approach to the android(which doesn't have an officially supported x86 and you only hear about it in the grapevine... just grab chrome os(again its renamed linux) or its open source and find how you get root access and you are set(you anyways need root access to install anything)...
