How do you type a star?

How might solar weather vary with star type?

  • I was just watching that nova about the sun - solar storms, cme's, etc. How different would this be on an O type star, or a white dwarf?

  • Answer:

It is intuitive to think that solar weather (referring to space weather in the vicinity of a star, generally) is proportional to the activity of the star and hence the size of a star in a given age (say main sequence). Since the activity of our Sun in mainly dictated by solar magnetic field, we expect a stronger and more violent magnetic field in bigger/ massive, ie. O-type stars. So I think solar weather is relatively  more violent in O-type stars given same age.
